Creative Play for the end of the summer

This set of vintage Pelham hand-painted wooden marionette puppets were lovingly used more than 20 years ago and have been resting in our dry attic waiting for another set of creative and imaginative children to wake them up!

Your child can act out countless puppet stories using the wicked witch, the serene fairy princess and the perky little girl and boy. With practice a child could present a one-person show, or could even use two marionettes at a time.

Each puppet is approximately 12 inches tall, excluding the strings. Eight strings control hands, legs, feet, back, head independently. The mouths are jointed but are not controlled by strings. (The mouths seem to move as the bodies move, creating the look that they are speaking.) All the strings are colored for easy identification. The set includes the original Pelham usage instructions and each is in its original box bottoms. (Only the witch has the box top.)

Scroll through this blog to meet each of the puppets.

Wicked witch

The witches’ face successfully depicts a classic storybook witch, even including a black mole on her cheek! She is wearing a long black dress with a red polka dot apron. She holds her broom in both hands for your skilled puppeteer to successfully scare the audience! She has a complete box and the original instructions.

Fairy princess

The serene faced fairy with soft cotton hair wears a white satin dress and felt wings decorated with sequins. There is a small fabric flaw on the right side of her bodice. She comes with the box bottom – no box top – and usage instructions.

Little Girl

The perky blue-eyed little girl wears a cute flowered jumper with a yellow waist bow, yellow shirt and yellow shoes. Her hair is a bit out of control, so we sewed a linen scarf around her head. (It can easily be removed.) She comes with a box bottom, no box top.

Little Boy

The sweet little brown-eyed boy sports a jaunty turquoise cap, plaid shirt and coral pants. He comes with a box bottom, no box top.
